Are you looking for a role that offers the opportunity to change lives? Supporting a visually impaired Community IT Instructor to reduce isolation of members and encourage integration, this is a flexible part time role, working 16 - 20 hours per week which could rise to 26 hours per week.

You will be working for an organisation who assist individuals who have served in the Armed Forces or National Service and are now living with significant sight loss. They provide much-needed assistance to veterans to adjust to sight loss, overcome challenges and enjoy daily life.

As the Part Time Visual Impairment Support Driver, your duties will include:

  • Assisting the Community IT Instructor from two bases in Great Barr and covering a region from the Midlands to the East of England
  • Driving the Instructor from Great Barr to locations for meetings, events and training
  • Providing descriptive assistance on screens when the Instructor is installing assistive technology, apps and mobile devices for members
  • Providing reading assistance and sight guided assistance within unfamiliar environments in order to allow the Instructor to navigate safely
  • Providing administration assistance including updating member records, processing work expenses, typing member feedback forms and assisting with the delivery of training workshop


To be successful as the Part Time Visual Impairment Support Driver, you will have:

  • A full clean driving licence
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to use smart phones, tablets and computers
  • Confident in using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • You may also have experience in any of the following: Support Driver, Sessional Driver, Teaching Assistant, Driving, Visual Impairment Worker, Administrator, PA, Training, Rehabilitation Officer, Charity, Charities, Third Sector, Empowerment, Administration, IT, Visual Impairment Specialist, SEN, Disability Officer, Carer, Domiciliary Care, Care Assistant


Based from Great Barr, Birmingham, the Part Time Visual Impairment Support Driver role will involve travel to various locations across the Midlands and East of England. You will receive a salary of £18,200 per annum pro rata / £10 per hour plus the following benefits:

  • Flexible part time hours, 16 - 20 hours per week Tuesday to Thursday with occasional Friday hours (this could increase to 26 hours per week)
  • 28 days holiday including Bank Holidays pro rata, rising to 34 days including Bank Holidays pro rata after 12 weeks temping
  • Free car parking
